The Hope of Heaven
“This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast…”
Hebrews 6:19
I have a terrible memory. Short term, long term, doesn’t matter! Sometimes I feel like Dory from the movie Finding Nemo ? My husband is the exact opposite. He can remember what he wore and where he was on April 9, 1999. I wish I had his memory!
But I will never forget the way that this verse comforted my soul during a terrible time of loss. I remember a sweet sister texting me and reassuring me that the Lord would give me a special verse that would anchor me and carry me through.
This was it.
This great reminder that the hope I have in Jesus and the hope of what awaits us will anchor me through the storms of life. And like my favorite pastor always says “It’s a KNOW-so hope, not a HOPE-so hope.” It’s sure and steadfast, withstanding all the tides of life that would want to pull us away. Jesus is our anchor.
I am a visual person. During our homeschool day, my kids will yell out a math problem (usually the hardest are the word problems) from the other room and I tell them, “I have to see it to be able to help you figure it out!” So when I read this verse, I like to picture a boat in a storm, getting tossed around by the crashing waves… but not carried away because the anchor is there to hold it in place. It is the same with us. We will face hardships, the Bible makes that very clear. Life circumstances cause us fear and to drift at times. But when those times come, let this verse come to remembrance as a great comfort. He is there to anchor us and to keep us and to shine His glorious hope into our hearts. What a Mighty God we serve!
“And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out His love into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, whom He has given us.”
Romans 5:5
