New Believer's Class

The New Believers' Foundation Class is a study of the fundamental Bible doctrines, also touching on practical issues for the new Christian or anyone desiring to study basic Bible principles. It is a 15-week course that repeats continually throughout the year. You can join the group at any time. We meet every Sunday at 8:30 AM in the 7th-9th grade classroom at CC Westside. Whether you are visiting our website for the first time or even if you call Calvary Chapel your home church, I trust our website will serve as a bridge of understanding to the ministry and vision of this fellowship.

Calvary Chapel Westside began as an outreach home Bible study of Calvary Chapel Finger Lakes, with the encouragement and blessing of Pastor, Bil Gallatin. We were incorporated in 1984 and in 2004, God graciously allowed us to build our current house of worship.

It is a blessing to have many wonderful, gifted and anointed people along side of me to help tend God's sheep. I praise the Lord for them! As we continue to serve Christ our vision is simple, to know Him and to make Him known. We hope that you will prayerfully consider endeavoring in this journey with us.

I'd like to leave you with one of my personal favorite verses found in Jeremiah 29:11, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end." No doubt, this is true of God's heart for you!

Adult Prayer

Prayer is a vital gift that the Lord has given to us. It allows us to communicate with the Lord, to hear Him, to thank Him, and even to ask of Him. God desires to know us, and for us to know Him. Through prayer, God has given us a way of pouring out our hearts to the Lord. You will find, as you pray, and direct your heart and mind toward God, He begins to give rest and peace. Our prayer meeting is set up in an informal, unique way. We have a time of thanksgiving, a time of being anointed by the elders, and a time of supplication.

Thanksgiving - We begin our prayer meeting in a large group, praying aloud, as the Spirit leads, giving thanks unto God. We thank Him for past, present and future blessings and promises. "Let us come before His presence with thanksgiving, and make a joyful noise unto Him with psalms" Psalm 95:2

Anointing - "Is any sick among you? Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord." Because of this and our desire to be faithful to the Word, we have our elders and Pastors available to anoint anyone in need of prayer. The next verse in James states that, "The prayer of faith shall save the sick." We believe this and hope for God's healing for those who, in faith, come forward for prayer.

Supplication - We divide into small groups. In these groups, we have a time of praying and petitioning out loud to God. We pray for our needs, desires, our families, our country, our church, etc. This is a time to get open with the Lord and really meet with Him. As you draw near to the Lord and spend time with Him, He is faithful to draw near to you. "Let my prayer be set before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice" Psalm 141:2

The Bible says in Luke 18:1 "Men ought always to pray, and not faint." Prayer is essential to the Christian. It allows us to refocus our minds from self to Christ. As we begin to pray, we recognize who God is and who we are which allows us to know our God is in control, loving us and working on our behalf.

Children's Ministry

The Bible tells us that children are a reward--an heritage from the Lord. The care and well-being of your children is of our highest concern. Our desire is to protect, take care of, love, and teach your children.

We have a nursery/toddler room for infants and children not yet old enough to go into a classroom. The nursery is set up with closed-circuit television so moms

can stay with their baby if needed. In the nursery/toddler room, there is a check-in counter for parents to sign in their children. They are then given a pager with a number assigned to their child. This is set up is in case the parent is needed, and for the safety of the children. If a parent is needed during service, we will simply page that parent to notify them. When picking up the children at the end of service, you must show your pager to receive your child. We do this as a security measure. The safety of your children is of utmost importance.

Our children's church is divided into appropriate grade levels so that the Word of God can be taught specifically geared to each groups' understanding. Like the toddler/nursery, there is a sign-in sheet for each child to be signed into their appropriate class. Parents are given a number so that, at the end of service, only they can sign out their own child. Classes range from preschool all the way up to 9th grade. Our 4th - 9th graders are encouraged to sit in with the adults during morning worship. Preschool through 4th grade begin with a time of their own children's worship. We lead them in fun, animated songs that sing of the nature of Jesus. We end worship about the same time as the adults, allowing those 4th - 9th graders who sat in the sanctuary to join their proper class. Our desire is to teach the children the Bible from a young age so that it is real and personal for them. The Bible says, "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Proverbs 22:6

We have many rules and guidelines for our teachers to ensure your child's safety. Anyone desiring to be a teacher or helper must fill out an application. Our application asks many questions of the applicant, informs us of their background, and provides a list of references. Our teachers must be people that have been coming to this church for a while--people that are known by our Children's Overseer, and of a good reputation. Teachers are given a curriculum they must follow according to the Word of God. We also have Security protecting our church during all services, roaming the halls, always watching over your children.

How Should I Dress For Church?
We are more concerned about you meeting with God and being built-up in the faith than with what you wear. Although some of the Pastors wear dress shirts and ties on Sunday mornings, most of the congregation dresses casual--slacks, jeans, t-shirts, sneakers, sandals, etc.

What's Available For My Children?
We believe that God wants our little ones to come to Him, therefore, we provide a Children's Ministry broken down according to age and grade level. Because of this, the children are taught on a level that they will best understand the Word of God. Age-appropriate classes are provided for infants through Junior High School, taught by teachers who love Jesus and want to show that love to our children. The safety of our children is also of our utmost concern. We have a sign-in procedure which keeps your children safe while you are attending the adult service in the Sanctuary. If you are a nursing mother, there is an area in the Nursery for moms, which enables you to watch the service from a closed-circuit TV.

What Should I Expect During A Church Service?
Service begins with a greeting and a few announcements. We then have a time of worship. Our worship is a mixture of hymns and contemporary praise music. Worship is important because it softens our heart to hear from God's Word, and directs our thoughts from self unto the Lord. Our Pastor then follows with a specific message from the portion of scripture where we left off previously. Pastor Dave teaches straight from the Bible, line upon line, verse upon verse so that we don't miss anything that the Lord would want to teach us. The first Sunday of every month we have a communion service in remembrance of what Jesus did for us on the Cross. You can sample Pastor Dave's teaching at our "online teachings" link.

How Can I Get To Know People?
We encourage you to come to our various events and meetings throughout the week in order to get to know our fellowship and to form friendships. Another great way of getting to know people in our church is through the Engedi Cafe. Before and after every service, our church coffee shop is open! We serve various snacks, sodas and coffee drinks. There is ample seating so come in, sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee. We also have a bookstore adjacent to the cafe full of Bibles and Christian reading material.

Youth Group

Our high school fellowship's main desire is for our youth to have their own real walk with Jesus Christ, to love Him, and to serve Him. It is our goal to teach the youth the truths of the Bible and that a relationship with Jesus must be the number one priority in their lives. God has blessed our group tremendously as we have seen boys and girls turn into young men and women of God.

"The Elect" youth group meets every Friday evening right here at church, at 7pm for grades 7th - 12th. We play games, have a time of worship, a Bible study, and fellowship. We start off with games in order to break the ice for the benefit of any new kids. Following the game, we have a time of worship and a Bible study. We begin with worship so that our hearts are settled before the Lord as we search the scriptures. In our Bible studies, we go through the Word of God, touching on issues that our youth are faced with daily. We discuss topics that are relevant to today's generation, building a foundation on Jesus Christ, so that our youth can battle the forces of evil and come out victorious. Finally, we have a time of fellowship, as we wait for the parents to come and pick up their youth. Many of the youth hang out and build Christian friendships. Having friends that know and love God is a huge blessing when you're trying to live a life for Jesus. It is our prayer for our youth to have hearts set on fire for our Lord, to be disciples of Him, and to share Him with others.

The "Not Of This World" ministry is held on Friday nights at 7:30 p.m. in the EnGedi Cafe. We fellowship, worship and spend time studying the scriptures. Our age-range for this ministry is anywhere from 18 (or out of high school) to mid 30's.

1John 2:14 - 17 says, "I have written unto you, young men, because ye are strong, and the Word of God abideth in you, and ye have overcome the wicked one. Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever."

Though we are not all "young men" the general consensus of this group is young adults. As we strive to be overcomers of this world, it is absolutely a daily battle. The pulls and excitements of the world are very tempting, yet we know that these things lead to destruction. The NOTW group started to give the opportunity to be in God's Word and also to have a place of fellowship with others of the same age. Our hope is that through fellowship we can find strength in our weakest moments and encouragement to press on. As John wrote, we want to be known as those that do the will of God and are separated from the world, hence the name, "Not of This World."

God has truly blessed us. We have a great group that welcomes all and is set on fire for Jesus. We encourage anyone that is in this age range to come and check us out.

Our vision is to draw closer to God by falling deeper in love with Him. The goal is that we would be solid, mature Christians that are unmovable and unpersuaded because of the knowledge and love we have for our Lord. To have love that is also directed toward one another, which encourages us to be a close-knit fellowship that welcomes the greatest and the least. Our desire is that Jesus would be and remain our focus, passion and life-line.

Women's Group

We live in a world that is pulling us in many different directions, where moral values mean nothing and where everything is about materialism and self. The demands seem to rage on every side of life. God could easily get suffocated out if we're not careful. We realize how easily and how mechanically this could happen even to the most conscientious Christian woman.

We are so blessed here at Calvary to have the "Shepherd's Daughters' Ministry" where, as women, we can grow together in our Lord Jesus Christ. We have opportunities to come together to do just that. There are two weekly ladies' Bible studies, periodic get-togethers for special events, ladies' retreats, back to basics studies, prayer meetings, and activity groups. We also have various ministries where we reach out to others.

Our desire, as women, is to mature in God's truth, both spiritually and practically. Our emphasis and teachings are from the Word of God. We believe it is His Word that leads us into all truth and sets us free from the bondage of this world, along with giving us grace and peace in our daily lives. Having a sure foundation allows us to be better equipped to handle life's daily pressures, to be a godly influence to a lost and dying world, to minister to others, and most importantly to bless the heart of our Savior Jesus.

It is an awesome privilege to minister to God's people and we want to be available in any way God allows us to meet the needs of our ladies. Men's Group

Our Men's Group meets the last Saturday of every month for a time of food, fellowship and prayer. It is so important to be men of prayer, so that is and remains our focus. We meet at 8:30^AM in the EnGedi Cafe right here at church. We spend the beginning part in fellowship, followed by a couple songs of worship and open prayer. This is a time for us guys to be real and open with our hearts before the Lord in the confidence of our brothers. The pastors and elders are also available at the end for anyone that is in need for specific prayers.

We also have some kind of men's event quarterly, whether it be a hot steak and eggs breakfast, garbage plate night, etc. We are constantly planning and looking for the Lord's guidance on things to do to keep the men together. We know that as the men of our church, homes, and families we are always under attack and that Satan desires to destroy us. Coming together like this builds friendships, strengthens our knowledge of the Word and prayer, and allows us to talk to others who go through the same things that we face each day. The Bible says in Acts 14:15, "We also are men of like passions with you, and preach unto you that ye should turn from these vanities unto the living God, which made heaven, and earth, and the sea, and all things that are therein." The goal is to put off the old man and to be renewed daily. To follow hard after our Lord, not looking to the left or to the right but keeping our eyes fixed on the prize, Jesus Christ. Running our course and finishing well to finally hear one day, "Well done thou good and faithful servant!"

Once a year we men get away on retreat together. We go up the mountain to "Life Ministries," more affectionately referred to as "The Castle" and we meet with the Lord. It is a time for men to be strengthened by their brothers. We usually have a guest Calvary Pastor share the teachings. The fellowship over meals, volleyball games and such, spontaneous worship times, prayer times, quiet and peaceful walks on the many trails with a brother or all alone with Jesus, are just a few ways that we spend our short time away. We understand that the spiritual battle is going to go on until Jesus steps on the head of the serpent, so these retreats are just as important as a front-line soldier in Afghanistan getting a weekend pass for some rest and relaxation, knowing that when he returns the enemy will be waiting. Retreats have a way of strengthening you for the next battle. They also bring the soldiers of Christ together in a needful way. All men are encouraged go on this retreat every year. The next retreat is scheduled for February 20^th- 22^nd. Pray that you will see this time important enough to be there. Please also pray everyday for the retreat, that God would make a way for the men to come, and that Jesus would pour out His Spirit upon us and meet with us in a fresh new way!

What We Believe

Calvary Chapel has been formed as a fellowship of believers in the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Our greatest desire is to know Christ and to be conformed to His image by the power of the Holy Spirit. We are not a denominational church, nor are we opposed to denominations as such, only their over-emphasis of the doctrinal differences that divide the Body of Christ. We believe that the only true basis of Christian fellowship is God's love, which is greater than our differences we possess and without which we have no right to claim ourselves Christians. In order to identify Calvary Chapel and to help better your understanding of who we are, we set forth this general statement of our fundamental beliefs:

SERVICES

In our services, we focus on a "personal relationship" with God through song, worship, prayer, and the teaching of the Word of God. We teach both expository and topical studies. The Holy Spirit will never interrupt the worship of Jesus or the teaching of God's word, therefore we do not permit the use of Spirit-given gifts to disrupt our services. We believe that the gifts of the Spirit are necessary for today's believer, but we believe that everything should be done decently and in order.

We believe worship of God should be Spiritual; therefore we remain flexible and yielded to the leading of the Holy Spirit to direct our worship.

We believe worship of God should be inspirational, therefore we give a great place to music in our worship.

We believe worship of God should be intelligent; therefore our services are designed with great emphasis upon the teaching of the Word of God that He might instruct us how He would be worshipped.

We believe worship of God is fruitful; therefore we look for His love in our lives as the greatest evidence that we are truly worshipping Him.

EVANGELISM

We participate and support evangelistic outreach ministries in communities all over the world, as the Spirit leads us. Our main belief concerning evangelism is that "sheep beget sheep." We are convinced that as we continue to feed the flock of God by teaching them the Word of God, they will naturally lead others to Christ.

WE BELIEVE...
The Bible is the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God and inerrant in the original writings. A complete and final written revelation of God.

There is one personal, transcendent, and Holy God, the Creator of all, Who is eternal and Who manifests Himself in three separate persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Our Lord Jesus Christ, though fully God, became a man for the suffering of death, that He is the promised Messiah, born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, provided for the atonement of our sins by His vicarious death on the cross, was bodily resurrected by the power of the Holy Spirit, ascended back to the right hand of God, and ever lives to make intercession for us.

All people are by nature separated from God and responsible for their own sin, but that salvation, redemption, and forgiveness are freely offered to all by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. When a person repents of sin and accepts Jesus Christ as personal Savior and Lord, trusting Him to save, that person is immediately born again and sealed by the Holy Spirit, all his/her sins are forgiven, and they become a child of God.

The Holy Spirit ministers today. He indwells, seals, and empowers every believer, baptizing them into the Body of Christ. We further believe that the Holy Spirit will come upon any believer who asks in faith, enabling him/her to preach the Gospel in power. We also believe all of the gifts of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Scriptures are valid for today if they are exercised within the scriptural guidelines. We believe that love is more important than all the gifts, and without this love all exercise of spiritual gifts is worthless.

That God wants our little ones to come to Him, therefore we provide a children's ministry broken down according to age and grade level. Because of this, the children are taught on a level that they will better understand the Word of God.

Married Couples Fellowship

Our Married Couples Fellowship is led by Pastor Larry Wise and his wife MaryKay. This group meets every 3rd Saturday at 6:30pm, right here at church in the EnGedi Cafe! It is open to all married and engaged couples. Our desire is to build up marriages on a strong foundation in Jesus Christ, looking at what the Bible says about marriage, and the way God has intended it to be. The group is based around a time of fellowship, a study in the Word of God, and interaction with other couples that desire a fruitful relationship with their spouse.

We also offer marital counseling for those that are in need. You will be set up with one of our marriage ministry counselors. They will point you to Jesus and His design for marriage. Having a relationship with the Lord will allow your heart to be flexible to the direction of God, in order to mend any broken pieces in your relationship. Jesus must be first in our marriages. He is the glue that will fix and keep us whole. " a threefold chord is not easily broken" Ecclesiastes 4:12

For those that are engaged and wanting to get married here, we require "premarital counseling" provided by the church. You will be set up with a married couple from the fellowship, someone that our pastors have observed and see as having a Godly marriage. They will take you through a 6-8 session program, hitting on different essential topics such as love for God, love for each other, the order of the home - God's way, finance and managing money, intimacy, etc. Again, our goal here at CC Westside is to have marriages built on a strong foundation that will stand the test of time.

worship

Our worship band plays a mixture of contemporary praise music and hymns. We are comprised of vocals, acoustic guitar, piano, bass, electric guitar, and drums varying sometimes to as simple as a single vocalist with his guitar. We try and play skillfully for the Lord but instruments and performance are not our goal. Our desire is to be pleasing to Jesus--to bring an act of worship through music, and with that, leading the congregation into words sung from the heart. How to Know God...

Who Needs Salvation? Everyone needs salvation because we have all sinned.
Romans 3:10-12 and 23 "There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands, there is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; they have together become unprofitable; there is none who does good, no, not one."
"For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God."

Why do we need Salvation? The price or consequence for sin is death.
Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."

How has God provided Salvation for us? Through Jesus Christ, who died for our sins. God the Father sent His son Jesus to the world to stand in our place and overcome sin and death.
Romans 5:8 "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."

How can we receive salvation? We receive salvation and eternal life only through faith in Jesus Christ.
Romans 10:9-10 and 13 "If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."
"For whoever calls on the name of the Lord will be saved."

What is the result of Salvation? Salvation through Jesus Christ brings us into a relationship of peace with God.
Romans 5:1 "Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ."
Romans 8:1 "There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit."
Romans 8:38-39 "For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord."

EnGedi Cafe

The EnGedi Cafe is a ministry meant to bless our sheep here at Calvary. It is open before and after each service, and Monday through Wednesday and Friday from 8:30 am - 4:00 pm.

The EnGedi Cafe was started in order to provide the body with a place of fellowship. Because of this, we named the Cafe "EnGedi." EnGedi is the place where David dwelt when running from King Saul. It was a place of escape, a fortress to find shelter. The word EnGedi means to have refuge. Our vision for the church cafe is for Christians to come and have a place of refuge from the world.

We serve an assortment of coffees, specialty drinks, Pepsi products, desserts, and candy. We also have free WIFI for your use and enjoyment. Feel free to stop in; it's a great place to have quiet time, to seek the Lord, to do work, or just to enjoy a good cup of Leaf and Bean gourmet coffee.

Lost and Found Radio Ministry

"Lost and Found" radio program is a teaching ministry of Calvary Chapel Westside. Pastor Dave is broadcast daily at 11:30AM, Monday through Friday on 99.7FM, "The Word". You can also find our daily broadcasts here on this page. We hope that this ministry is a blessing to you and to all who listen. It is our privilege to proclaim the name of Jesus over the air waves. Thank you for all your prayers and support.

Chapel Store

The Chapel Store is a ministry meant to bless our sheep here at Calvary. It is open before and after each service, and Monday through Wednesday and Friday 8:30 am - 4:00 pm.

The Chapel Store is a great resource our church provides. We sell a variety of books, Bibles, music, and other Christian items. We have a video rental room with a selection of children's and family DVD's for just $1. We can also order certain items for you if they are not available in our store. Our objective for the Chapel Store is to provide our congregation and community with solid Christian materials. Our hope is to encourage and strengthen your walk with the Lord as you learn and study to know Him more.

Our Tape Library is also located inside of the Chapel Store. Here you can purchase any of Pastor Dave's teachings. Whether there is a portion of the Bible you want to study, a teaching you heard on the radio, or a certain teaching you would like to bless a loved one with, we make it available to you. Teachings are available in MP3 and CD format. Our desire is to know the ways of the Lord, and to grow in knowledge and in truth.

Proverbs 29:18 tells us, “Where there is no vision, the people perish…” Therefore, we find it of utmost importance to have a vision, or a “game plan,” from the Lord for our fellowship. It is simple and yet sufficient; to know Christ and to make Him known to as many people as the Lord wills. We hope that you will prayerfully consider endeavoring in this journey with us.

I'd like to leave you with one of my favorite scripture verses found in Jeremiah 31:3, “The LORD has appeared of old to me, saying: ‘Yes, I have loved you with an everlasting love; Therefore with lovingkindness I have drawn you.” What an awesome God we have in Jesus Christ!
